Ratanapon

The Ratanapon "Pile of Jewels" is recorded as having been built in 1612 by Meng Khamoung, son of great Rakhine king, Meng Razagri, and his queens, and is said to have a hoard of gold, jewels and images enshrined within it. This reputation has led to generations of treasure seekers attempting to find their fortune, but neither these nor earthquakes have succeeded in penetrating its core. What remains today is the body of a solid stupa constructed of blocks of sandstone, circular at the base and rising in concentric receding tiers. The uppermost portion has fallen away.
