Cheered by fully-booked rooms during the tourist season, some big-name hotels in Yangon prepare to raise the rates in the next season – from October 2012 to March 2013.
A Yangon-based tour company said the rates may go up 30%, and some hotels even wouldn’t offer contract rates to the tour companies. Without contract rates, room rates could go up twice even to local travel and tour companies.
If hotel room rates are not competitive enough, it could probably decelerate the Myanmar tourism development, said a senior official from the Hotel and Tourism Association of Myanmar.
