On 28th February, Ministry of Energy notified all airlines that the price of aircraft fuel (JET-A1) was floated at the market rate and some airlines passed the increase as fuel surcharge to the passengers on 1st March.
The fuel surcharge varied from USD 15 to USD 25 to foreigners and was collected at the airline counters.
Five days later, Ministry of Energy revoked their decision and announced that they would sell the fuel at the previous rate – 2500 kyats a gallon. As a result, all airlines decided not to charge fuel surcharge to the relief of air passengers and tour companies alike.
