Tharaba Gate

The Tharaba Gate marks the eastern entrance to the old city of Bagan. This and the small section of brick wall on either side are all that remain of the ninth-century rampart. Each side of the gate contains a niche housing Bagan's guardian nats,' Mister Handsome' and his sister 'Golden Face', known collectively as ' Lords of the High Mountain'.

This monument is one of the oldest monuments in Bagan, assumed to have existed before Anawrahta took the throne.
