Nyaung U

Nyaung U (also spelt Nyaung Oo) is north-east of Bagan, and the main settlement on the Bagan plain. Visitors arriving from the airport will drive through Nyaung U - and past the nearby Shwezigon - on the way to hotels around Bagan itself. Nyaung U is a busy, modern untidy town with a few friendly teashops and a big market every day.
