Myinkaba Village

The most notable features of Myinkaba village are the huge stacks of bamboo one sees everywhere. Bamboo is the raw material for the plaited matting which serves as the walls of houses all over Myanmar. Stop and watch this intricate manufacutring operation in progress: the bamboo is first split into strands, then deftly woven into large squares.

The village is also famous for its traditional Mon-style lacquerware, the secret of whose manufacture has been passed from generations since King Manuha brought his artisans with him into exile here more than 900 years ago.
