Myazedi Pagoda

The Myazedi, next to the Gubyaukgyi temple, is said to have been built by Anawrahta in order to atone for the crime of killing his predecessor and half brother, Sokkade, in a duel for the throne in 1044. The low round terraces and elongated bell show that it was built before the Mon-Buddhist influence on Bagan. It has been restored by donations but is heavily whitewashed and with a gilded stupa.

At the premise of the pagoda, there exists the Myanmar Rosetta Stone or Myazedi Inscription, enclosed in a shelter.
